Our projects

The Snowleader Corporate Foundation supports projects of general interest carried out by non-profit organizations. Our ambition is to combine young people’s access to the mountains and the protection of the environment through awareness or action, within the same project.

A shepherd in my school

Alpine Economy Society of Haute Savoie

The association's

This association, created in the 1920’s, works to keep alive and evolve alpine techniques and culture in harmony with urban centers. Their work is focused on the sustainable management of the mountain pastures of Haute-Savoie, the maintenance of a dynamic agro-pastoral activity, the conservation of the quality of the landscapes and the mountain environment and the maintenance of the social life in the mountains and the alpine cultures.

The project

In the context of public awareness, they have developed the project “A shepherd in my school”, which has been in place for 15 years, to raise awareness each year among primary school children of the alpine economy, which is inseparable from the pastoral and agricultural dimension. To bring physical and sensory experience back into this approach, they propose field trips to the mountain pastures at the end of the curriculum (around May and June) following the educational workshops in class. However, this field trip has become a hindrance for the schools, due to a lack of resources, since the cost is borne by the schools.

So that this outing to the mountain pastures is no longer a financial obstacle for the schools, and because it seems essential to us that the children go to the mountains, our board of directors has decided to support the association in this project, to allow 25 classes, that is to say 600 pupils from 6 to 11 years old, to go to the mountain pastures next spring.

My Chance Too

The association's

The association Ma Chance Moi Aussi has been accompanying the most vulnerable children (from 5 to 15 years old) from families in educational difficulty for 6 years now, every evening after school, every Wednesday, and 50% of the school vacations. They offer homework help, early-learning activities, sports, and visits and discoveries of the territory. Their actions aim at restoring equal opportunities. They take care of about 200 children in 9 establishments, between Île-de-France and Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes.

The project

Children supervised by the association Ma Chance Moi Aussi of Albertville will soon discover the mountain through sports activities such as hiking (winter and summer) and initiation to climbing, accompanied by Snowleader collaborators. These three outings during the school vacations will mark the culmination of the project conceived in collaboration between the Snowleader corporate foundation and the Ma Chance Moi Aussi association, with a common theme: the mountains and their environment.

Jeunes en montagne

CAF de Grenoble

The association's

Since 2011, the CAF Jeunes, supported by the Mission Montagne of the city of Grenoble, allows young people from Grenoble, living in working class neighborhoods and often far from mountain practices, to discover all the richness and values that the mountains offer near Grenoble. But also to live an experience of the “collective” and to experiment a sporting progression, through a discovery course of 5 to 7 outings (including a night in a refuge).

The project

Committed to their side, the Snowleader foundation will take care of all the overnight stays in refuges for the young people, but also the services of technical advisers involved during the outings, for the coming year.

We are also in contact with them for material advice with our customer service experts and a member of our communication team at Snowleader is involved in skills sponsorship with the student recruited by the Mission Montagne in Grenoble.

82-4000 Solidarity

The association's

The 82-4000 association (referring to the 82 Alpine peaks over 4,000 m) has made leisure activities for all its credo since 2012. It offers an immersion in the high mountains to people who do not know it at all, such as young people in difficulty, in poverty, through a discovery program of 5 to 7 days, supervised by volunteer guides. Particular attention is given to the bonds of ropes, trust and solidarity, with the guiding principle that the mountain is meant to educate, but not the association.

In partnership with associations committed to ending extreme poverty and building a fairer society, such as ATD Fourth World, Pluriels 94, Le Refuge, or L’école de la 2e chance, 82-4000 organizes every year about fifteen courses to share moments of mountain adventure with the most underprivileged, with a team of about sixty volunteer mountaineers, guides, climbers and walkers.

The project

Today, 82-4000 is exporting to Haute-Savoie by creating its new branch in Annecy. We decided to support them in this action by accompanying them on a training course in the high mountains with the network “Les Écoles de la 2e Chance” (Paris), whose objective is to fight against exclusion for young people leaving the school system without a job or qualification. The course will take place in April in the Aravis mountains or in September in the heights of Chamonix, depending on the weather conditions.

Leisure Provence Mediterranean

The association's

Created in 1969, this association, based in Marseille, works in the field of vacations for all and educational stays for schools.

Noting the disengagement of local authorities in this area, Loisirs Provence Méditerranée wanted to relaunch the discovery classes for schools in the Priority Education Network, by offering a very low cost for these families.

The project

Next winter, 22 students (CM1-CM2) from the National elementary school, in the 3rd district of Marseille, will go on a snow class from January 24 to 28 in the Provence Méditerranée Leisure Center “Le Val Saint-Paul”, located in the heart of the picturesque high alpine village of Baratier, in the Hautes-Alpes department. On the program: ski lessons with the ESF of the Réallon resort (between Chorges and Orcières), snowshoe outings, mountain-themed games and a ski medal at the end of the stay!

Then, it will be the turn of the Busserade-Masséna elementary school, also in the 3rd district of Marseille, to go to Baratier. They will be 73 students (3 classes of this school), in CP, CE1 and CM2, who will take part in a nature and sustainable development class, from May 9 to 13. For them, it will be the discovery of the mountain environment, hiking to meet the marmots, nature days on the water cycle, etc. They will be supervised by the Embrun guide office.

Brotherhood Expedition

APART

The association's

The association, based in Tremblay-en-France, promotes the social and professional integration of young people from Seine-Saint-Denis by using sport as a vehicle for integration. To this end, they organize “Fraternity Expeditions”, abroad, aiming to succeed in a challenge that is both professional and sporting.

In 2021, they went to Peru, in 2015 to Nepal and in 2018 to Africa. Each time, the members of the expedition, young people from 18 to 20 years old, had to reach a summit. For this, they have to prepare themselves physically and mentally for many months before the trip. At the same time, the ambition is also professional, since these young people have to reach the end of their project by getting a training or a long-term job. At each step, the association is at their side to accompany them.

The Snowleader corporate foundation supports them for their next challenge: Latin America, with an ascent in Ecuador, for this winter.

The Chalet of Florimont

Mountain pole

The association's

Pôle Montagne designs and runs fun and educational stays oriented towards citizenship education for sustainable development. Through games, outdoor adventure and the power of experience, students and young people (from primary to high school, from 6 to 17 years old) learn to live together better and imagine new solutions for our planet.

The activities of the stay are in the form of a game, for example, where the children have to carry out actions with a positive footprint on a daily basis (during the stay, then back home). These stays are integrated into a year-long class project (before, during and after) with educational materials made available, like a real laboratory.

The project

The association owns a chalet in Hirmentaz (Chablais – Bellevaux) for which it has decided to set up a sustainable system. It will be a privileged support to teach young people to be eco-responsible on a daily basis in areas such as food, biodiversity, water, energy, mobility or waste.

With this project, perfectly answering our two vocations, we are at their side for the acquisition of elements of the sustainable device, like an educational beehive, but also with an endowment of materials for zero waste picnics.

With this pedagogical hive with chimney, the children will be able to apprehend the importance of the existence of the bees while following the various stages of the life of a hive during the seasons (maintenance of the colony, installation of the supers, wintering) and will be able to take part in the harvest and the extraction of the honey and thus to affix proudly the labels of the first honey conceived with the Chalet of Florimont!

ASTERS

The association's

ASTERS (Conservatoire d’espaces naturels en Haute-Savoie) is an association created in 1982, in the field of nature protection. Its mission is to preserve and manage the natural environment and species, to advise and support territorial policies, to be a scientific and technical expert, and to raise awareness about the environment. It brings its expertise and its support to local authorities wishing to preserve their natural areas on their territory (e.g. reintroduction and conservation of the bearded vulture). It also manages 9 national nature reserves, including 6 in the high mountains.

Over the years, the members of the association have noticed that there were tools to explain global warming in a global way, but none specifically adapted to the mountains. They then had the project to create a game: “the Fresco of the Mountain”; inspired by the principle of the Fresco of the Climate.

The project

The “Fresco of the Mountain” is a project carried out by many managers of protected areas, actors of climate change awareness (associations, educators, climate-energy officers, researchers, research departments…) and volunteer citizens representing the different French massifs. The working group includes one person from the Educ’Alpes network and two others, who are responsible for the Climate Fresco in Auvergne Rhône-Alpes and in the Pyrenees.

The ambition is to create an educational game to raise awareness based on the principle of the Climate Fresco. The game will be in the form of cards that must be reconstructed in a logical order to recreate a schematic view of the impacts of climate change on the mountain, its natural areas and the human activities that depend on them. Examples drawn from scientific studies on all the massifs will allow the activity to be adapted to the territory and the participants will be invited to reflect on the possible actions to be implemented at the local level. The activity can be conducted with the general public, schoolchildren, elected officials and socio-professional actors.
The team aims to release a first version of the game in the spring of 2022.
Copies of the game will be printed for shelters, schools, youth centers, etc. It will also be available for free download online.

Since this action is close to our hearts and because we are aware of it, we are supporting them in the concrete (time allocated for the working groups) and graphic realization of this board game. Very soon, the employees will also be testers during the testing phases of the game and the animation.

Biodiv'sports

The League for the Protection of Birds (LPO)

The association's

The League for the Protection of Birds (LPO) has been acting for more than 100 years in favor of the protection of birds and the ecosystems on which they depend and, in particular, the fauna and the flora which are associated with them, and more globally the biodiversity, in all France.

The LPO AuRA was born from a fusion of the 9 local associations LPO of the region.

Their project is called “Biodiv’sports” and aims to disseminate the areas of high sensitivity for wildlife, on platforms and websites listing sports routes in natural environments (IGN Rando, Camptocamp, Whympr, etc.).

The project

The project is based on local concerted action aimed at taking into account environmental issues in sports practices. It must allow the creation of a dialogue with the participants, to improve the knowledge and the consideration of the wild fauna during mountain outings. It brings together many actors of the natural environment: protected areas, associations, area managers, sports federations, clubs, users of the natural environment, etc.

Their goal? To provide users of the natural environment with the necessary knowledge so that they can understand the conservation issues of the species, understand the notion of disturbance and adapt their behavior voluntarily. The key word of this project is the conciliation of activities.
“Biodiv’sport” acts on all types of fauna (birds, goats, etc.) and concerns many sports activities (ski touring, mountaineering, snowshoeing, climbing, paragliding, canoeing, trail, etc.). Since 2018, the tool has been operational and the project is now taking on a large scale.

With many athletes at Snowleader, the foundation and our employees are involved in this large-scale project, which is for us a concrete action to protect the mountain environment.

Obsolete installations

Mountain Wilderness

The association's

Mountain Wilderness aims to unite mountaineers and mountain lovers from all over the world to protect the mountain environment and defend the last wilderness areas. It aims to change attitudes towards the mountains by means of actions in the field, expert publications and relations with political, associative and economic actors. Their missions include maintaining natural balances, questioning unreasonable practices, proposing soft approaches to the mountains, and supporting a diversified mountain economy.

The project

With the action “Obsolete installations”, carried out for 20 years now, it helps to identify and dismantle these abandoned tourist, industrial, agricultural and military facilities which are a real visual pollution and a certain danger for visitors and wildlife. Volunteer workcamps are regularly organized throughout the seasons.

Sensitized to this environmental problem, we will be present on their next spring workcamp in the Vosges, on the summit of the Hohneck.
